I just wanted to post a preview of my multimedia project.  I’m pretty much done with audio.  I think the story I’ve recorded is really interesting and eye opening for those whom are unaware of the abilities of the visually impaired.  I have gone with my mom twice to Florence, and it is so amazing to watch this young girl read dots, with her fingers!  And watch her navigate around her maze of a school with just a cane needing absolutely no assistance.  I can’t imagine how frightening it must be to not be able to see anything, but she handles her disability with such ease and speaks about it with such levity.  I’ve enjoyed getting to know my mothers student, and I find her so fascinating, and I am very grateful that she is so open about sharing her stories.

Family Photo’s

Days with my Father by Phillip Toledano

I wanted to post this photo story that I had mentioned in class the other day.  We had talked about when it was appropriate or not to use a family member or someone close to you as a subject of photography project.  This was the example I had given for a wonderfully done photo journal done by Phillip Toledano of his aging father.  I usually look at photographs and simply note if I like it or not, it is unusual for me to stare at a photo for awhile or actually have some sort of emotional attachment to it, but when I stumbled upon Toledano’s work I had never felt so moved by pictures.  Maybe it is because I am very close with my father, or Toledano’s father reminds me of my grandfather, but I just think these are some of the most beautiful photo’s I have ever seen, and the text is very moving as well.  I wanted to share his work on my blog in hopes that others might enjoy them as well.  I feel like when a photograph can extract any sort of strong emotion from a viewer, then the photographer has succeeded in taking a great picture.

Macaroon’s

I was so happy to find out my favorite brunch/lunch spot in Columbia is now selling my favorite little delicacy.  I can’t say they were are delicious as the ones from Ladurée in Paris, but in South Carolina, they are as good as it gets.  And they are just so pretty and delicate.  With a great amount of self control, I was able to resist the temptation of devouring them immediately, and snapped some photo’s of them all arranged on a pretty plate.  The end result was totally worth the 15 dollars I spent on 12 cookies.

Mignon

How cute is this picture?  This was taken while I was doing my environmental portrait “photo shoot”.  This is my subjects son, and I couldn’t help but take his picture because he was so funny playing around in these neat little tunnel type things.  He and his sister  kept popping up and down yelling “Can’t catch me!”  Well I was only able to “catch them” once, but it was a good one.

Mini Boo

My parents found a tiny kitten over the summer living in the drain pipe at the end of our drive way.  It was very frightened at first and would not allow for anyone to touch it, but after a week of coaxing and feeding, he finally warmed up to everyone.  This little kitty especially loved our dog Boo.  They were always playing together, eating together, napping together.  It’s not very normal to see a cat and dog happily coexisting together, maybe the kitten thought Boo was it’s brother… or dad?

We loved the kitty but since we already have a cat we decided it would be best to find it another loving home.  We were so happy when our neighbors with two little kids decided to take it.  Now kitty is Mickey (he was Minnie because he looked like a Mini Boo, but then after a vet’s visit Minnie was deemed male so the only name that seemed to fit was Mickey) he has a good home, and Boo can visit anytime he wants.

Simple Joys in Life

I regularly babysit two little girls (ages 5 and 2), they are so cute and lively and I really enjoy taking photographs of them, they always love to have their picture taken, and it is a nice gift to give their parents for special holiday’s or birthdays.   The other day we were taking a walk, and all the fire hydrants around the neighborhood had been unscrewed and were pouring out water and making little streams all the way down the streets.  The girls were having so much fun jumping and splashing around in the water (it is wonderful how easily children are entertained) so I grabbed my camera because I was sure there would be some good photo opts. I used a fast shutter speed to capture the water movement, because I have always thought that professional photographs of water motion are very beautiful.  Here are some shots from the day

Paris

I went to Paris in December to visit my boyfriend and his family.  I have been to Europe before, and I always have admired Europeans way of life, the food, the architecture, and the art.  We tried to stay away from tourist traps, especially since my boyfriend prides himself on being Parisian, and would be especially offended if he was mistaken as a tourist, but the one place that I refused to bypass because of crowds was the Notre Dame Cathedral.  I was not disappointed.  The gothic style, gargoyles, stained glass windows, etc. were all breathtaking.  Unfortunately I only had a point and shoot camera, so it was hard to capture all the intricate details, especially without being able to use flash on a hazy day.  Everything about Paris was such an enriching and inspiring experience for me.

Boo

Boo is a form of constant entertainment for me and my family.  He is such a beautiful dog, and his personality is so sweet.  He is the calmest dog you will ever meet.  Boo has a best friend named Koda.  Koda and Boo are wildly different, but they have the best time when they are together.  Koda is the only dog that Boo will actually pay any attention too, no other dogs seem to interest him.  Koda comes over for “play dates” at least twice a week.  Just yesterday they had a little rendezvous and it was the funniest thing to watch, the best part was when they decided to share a drink from the bird bath.  I had to grab my camera and document it.

Big Blue

This is a face of utter humiliation.  Poor Boo could not keep his “hands” out of his mouth.  So we had to take him to the doctor, and consequently he must now wear this ring of shame.  But seriously, since when did they make these things so HUGE and obnoxious?  I honestly feel sorry for Boo, and I’m certain he feels sorry for himself. He can’t walk but five feet without bumping into something, and it has seriously handicapped him in his pursuit of squirrels, not that he has ever been successful in his squirrel catching endeavors.  I did take slight pleasure in his embarrassment, I got a few great photo opts, and he looks so darn cute.
